Who are The Sundial Press?
The Sundial Press is an independent
publishing house dedicated to introducing original and distinctive
literature to a discerning readership.
What do you publish?
We are interested in both rescuing
works long out of print from an undeserved oblivion and publishing
bright new fiction that we believe deserves to be in print and for which,
as yet,
an unsuspecting readership awaits.
What are your most recent titles?
Our current title is an exciting new novel
by master storyteller, Roger Norman: RED DIE A Dorset Mystery. A few
months earlier, we published two highly
distinctive novels by T. F. Powys of Mr Weston fame:
Unclay and Kindness in a Corner with thought-provoking
Introductions by distinguished scholars, and STILL BLUE BEAUTY Wessex Essays of Llewelyn Powys
which is a companion volume to the highly successful
DURDLE DOOR TO DARTMOOR Wessex Essays of Llewelyn Powys
which
continues to sell well as it
reaches an expanding readership.
Our
first two titles,
launched in early 2007, were new editions of two novels written by two
remarkable women that were originally published in the early 1930s and
have not been reissued since. Alyse Gregory and Philippa Powys were
sisters-in-law who lived on the headland between the sheer Dorset cliffs
and the village of East Chaldon, from the mid 1920s to the late 1950s.
It was here that they wrote these two novels published within a year of
each other and now reissued for the first time.
Additional titles, several by established
but neglected writers, are in active preparation and will follow in the
coming months, and we believe we have an eclectic and compelling
catalogue in the making.
Do you only publish books
by members of the Powys family?
Our first half dozen titles are
by members of the remarkable Powys family but then we plan to issue books by other
authors including A.E. Coppard, H.A. Manhood, Sylvia Townsend Warner, Gamel Woolsey, Roger Norman ...
Do you publish new
authors?
Yes! In
November 2008, we published
RED
DIE A Dorset Mystery
by
Roger Norman which is set in Dorset during World War I. Roger previously
published Albion's Dream issued by Faber & Faber in 1990. We are
particularly excited by
RED
DiE
and
feel privileged to publish it. In the Spring of 2009 we plan to make
further additions to SUNDIAL's NEW FICTION range.
